How avoid food waist for a dinner party
Dinner Parties are a great way to bring friends and families together through food but often when planning a dinner party I tend to go over board with purchasing items that aren't practical and sustainable. What ends up happening is I have fancy ingredients that I really can't use anymore and it goes to waist.
The point is I got tired of throwing out 9 dollar cheeses that wasn't really a big hit anyway. I this blog I want to show you how to have an amazing Dinner Party and also not waist and spend more than you have to.
1. Intentional List
When hosting a dinner party first you want to map out the meal you are going to be making. Whether it's a fancy steak dinner or Italian inspired be intentional about choosing ingredients that can be reused in your day to day and that will make great left-overs for you and your guests.
Once you've created your grocery list pick out items to spruce up your home weather it be flowers or something to decorate for the holidays. This little details add more depth to your party but also don't have to be super expensive
P.S. These are for you and the guest
2. Head count
Knowing how many people are going to be there is vital to preparing for a dinner party.
When you finally setting a number for your dinner party try to create a meal that could provide leftovers for you and even your guest. This allows for a prepped meal for yourself the next week while also allowing your guest to go home with a yummy meal with no food waist in sight.
3. Arrange
Arranging the flow of the dinner party helps you decide what needs to go where and how you can make the most out of each course.
When you know your head count you can know how much food to lay out for your guest and what can be stored in the fridge if your charcuterie board gets low on ingredient's like crackers or meats. This also allows you to bring out more snacks for activities such as board games.
4. Food Storage
Having food storage items on hand is important to have on hand when having a dinner party. I've found these food storage options the most helpful.
Small glass containers can help with smaller items that can be stored or sent home with friends or family. A stasher bag can hold fruits and vegetables. Don't want to part with your glass wear? Use reusable wax paper to send home goodies to your friends or family.
Here's a link on how to use reusable wax paper or make your own
5. Send Home
Now that we've talked about how to store food from your dinner party, you can send it home with friends or family as a party favor. One thing that I like to do to make my guest feel special is make their own food storage bags before hand that way they can pick and choose the things they want to take home as the night goes on.
